Thus, A Woman’s Day

Each figure originally portrayed in this book illustrates an actual movement used in tai chi for arthritis. Although tai chi is the vehicle and inspiration for the illustrations and prose, the  intention and message of this body of work is to celebrate ALL women and their daily growth and transformation.

Thus, a Woman’s Day also includes a Symbolism Index. This index of symbols decodes the paintings, to unlock additional layers of interpretation and  meaning found in color choices, objects and nature.

The First Fold

A woman, beckoned by a bird’s freedom song, wakes her spirit as she completes her menial morning chore. Heeding
the household cues around her, she reflects on the pool of water, recognizing the opportunity for all that is good,

her and mindfully commits to act with purpose as she executes the first fold.

Dominions in Vast Contrast

She walks with deliberate, measured strides, prepared for new beginnings and those obstacles she gladly seeks to meet face-to-face.  Hanging her lanterns in the boughs, she lights the path of welcomed confrontation, as petals pink upon the branch bare witness and adulation. Each footstep taps the pass code to open the exchange of the now with the past.  In unison, she mirrors the bridge’s subtle rise and fall amidst dominions in vast contrast.

Beyond an Unexpected Storm

When skies grow dark, clouds block the sun, and raindrops start to fall, she chooses not to dodge the storm’s ill effects. Energized with each thunder clap, she reaffirms her perseverance to meet her goals. To walk around, step into,  or jump over the annoyance puddled in her path, she meets an  occasion to test life’s lessons learned- never forced to act alone  in times of trouble.  Emotions checked and choices made supply an umbrella for protection. An unexpected storm will not spoil her day  with waters washing clean the past. Complete in her commitment,  with every storm comes growth anew, an opportunity for illumination.

Transcendence

At day’s end all women define the mystery of life, wearing the empirical robe proudly adorned with each decision, each leap of faith, and each victory that filled their hours. Strongly bonded to the joy of the success and the obstacles that she has overcome, she emerges as a monument- raised in glory for all enlightened women.  Each woman’s day ends as it began, with introspection.  Sundown brings cause to celebrate their time of transcendence enflamed by the anticipation and promise of the morning’s renaissance.
